When it comes to grilling one of the most important things you need is a great rub. Living in Texas you need to have a great rub whenever something goes on the grill or smoker. Whether it is brisket or ribs this is a great rub for either. Made with ingredients already found in your pantry or spice drawer this is quick way to pack a punch to your ribs.
In this recipe
Many if not all of the spices found in this recipe will likely be in your kitchen already. The best part about this recipe is that it can be used with or without barbecue sauce.
Smoked paprika: adds a smokey flavor to the rub and will pair well with the chili powder.
Chili powder: is not only ground chili peppers but also includes additional ingredients like cumin a garlic powder to further enhance the flavor and smokiness.
Cinnamon: the woody and bitter flavors in cinnamon are perfect for the grill.

Using barbecue rib rub
This recipe makes about a cup of the rub. If you are planning on making several racks of ribs or spreading this over a large portion of meat such as brisket or pork shoulder then you will want to double or triple the recipe. This will make sure that you have enough for the whole recipe. You want to generously season both sides of the ribs before you cook them. Also you will want to use indirect heat when you cook with this rub since there is a good amount of sugar in it to keep the meat from scorching.

How do I store it?
The best way to store this rub is in a non-reactive glass jar. I like to use canning or other air tight mason jars. I also make a large amount at once so I have it at a moment’s notice. It will keep for about 6 months in an air tight container before the spices start losing their potency. If you want to check out if they are still good is to smell the blend before you use it. If the blend does not have a smell or only smells like sugar then the blend is old.
