Italian Seasoning Blend

Simple and easy to make this Italian seasoning blend is better than anything store bought and you can use it on almost anything. Add this to your favorite chicken, pork or seafood recipes.

When I am on the go or don’t have much time to cook and want something simple my go-to is chicken and fish. This Italian spice blend is the perfect seasoning mix for simple and easy cooking. Apply this generously to your chicken, pork or fish recipe and you will have everyone coming back for more. Since this blend does not contain any salt, it will not be necessary for you to modify any recipes to account for the salt within.

In this recipe

The most important thing about this recipe is that all of the herbs are dried. This will help maintain its shelf life and keep it from spoiling. There are some herbs that you can omit, however the following three shouldn’t be one of them.

Oregano: this will be the backbone of your seasoning blend coming in at 2 tablespoons.

Basil: will add a slightly sweet flavor to the blend and compliments the oregano and thyme perfectly.

Thyme: one of my favorite herbs to cook with.

But why the sage?

Sage is a very underrated herb, and one of my favorite ways to cook it is to fry it in butter to help release the flavors. It has a nice earthy and peppery flavor with hints of mint and pine. This blend makes use of those flavors to give a nice well-rounded seasoning that will complement much of what you cook with it. Plus, it is a nice balance to the rosemary that is in there.

Best ways to use the Italian seasoning

This part is completely subjective, but I happen to love putting this on a pork loin, pork chops or assorted pieces of chicken and putting it in a plastic Ziploc before work. Then once I am home, I can just bake, grill, or sauté them and I am ready to eat. This is especially true with fish. Just sprinkle some on right before cooking and you will have a nice delicate fish that tastes absolutely wonderful.
